Posting Summary
Calgary’s RiverWalk pathway system connects pedestrians and cyclists through the heart of the city and to our beloved Bow River. The time has come to redevelop the next segment, creating a continuous, world-class active modes connection linking Fort Calgary to the west end of downtown Calgary. This exciting project, known as RiverWalk West, presents a unique challenge for eligible designers and engineers to develop creative solutions that complete the downtown river promenade.
Through the RiverWalk West Design Competition, The City of Calgary (The City) encourages an innovative problem-solving and design excellence approach. As a critical component of the Downtown Revitalization program, this project must address the need for increased pathway use and accommodate adjacent projects in the area. With the two-stage competition format, participants will first compete in a Request for Prequalification (RFPQ) to become one of up to five (5) shortlisted teams. These shortlisted teams will receive an honorarium to complete a design concept in the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. The shortlisted concepts will be shared for public input and reviewed by a jury of industry experts to select the winning concept. The winning team will have the opportunity to enter in to a contract with The City to complete the detailed design and construction contract administration stages of the project. To be eligible for prequalification, teams must include a full member registered and in good standing with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA). The team’s lead Landscape Architect must be registered, accredited and in good standing with a recognized association with the International Federation of Landscape Architects.
A design competition approach represents an investment in the future of Calgary's public realm, as the chosen design will shape the city's downtown river promenade for years to come.
